Essences. Masks. Copper. Retinol. Vitamin C. Today there are more categories of skin care products and important ingredients in these products than anyone can learn and master. If you’re like the vast majority of women and men in the United States, the sheer number of different kinds and brands of skin care products on the shelves leaves you confused. Which of the hundreds of different products sitting on shelves in front of you do you actually buy?

Well, rest assured.  You’re not alone.  Most plastic surgeons and even dermatologists get confused, too.  It’s not easy to keep up with all the trends and new products in skin care today.

On today’s episode of The Holistic Plastic Surgery Show, we’re going to get to the bottom of skin care.  I’ll reveal what skin care products you need, which may be considered a helpful splurge, and which ones you can definitely avoid.  And, I’m going to give you what I consider the Ultimate Anti-Aging Skin Care Routine.

And, if you listen to the end of the episode, I’ll have a special gift for you.  Tune in for a skin care routine that will change your skin for good!

Do you have a “sugar brain?”

Sugar brain is the term coined by my guest this week, New York Times bestselling author and psychologist Dr. Mike Dow. It describes the actual physical shrinkage that occurs when you eat too much sugar and other unhealthy foods.

Yes, eating too much sugar can actually make your brain smaller!

On this episode of The Holistic Plastic Surgery Show, we dive deep into sugar brain and its connections to how you feel, how your brain functions, and your eating habits. For example, did you know that the food you eat can have major effects on anxiety and depression? Or that such acts as obsessive eating, emotional eating, and binge eating can fuel sugar brain? And Dr. Mike explains why he believes a combination of a ketogenic and Mediterranean diet is the best for your overall health, longevity, and avoiding the sugar brain.

Please join me and my good friend Dr. Mike Dow as we reveal How to Fix Your Sugar Brain.

Menopause and perimenopause bring with them major changes to the pelvic region, specifically to the vagina.  The vaginal walls can thin and atrophy, making intercourse difficult and even painful.  There is also an increase in recurrent vaginitis and urinary tract infections. So what causes these changes to occur, and what can you do about them or even prevent them from becoming a problem?

On this episode of The Holistic Plastic Surgery Show, I’m joined by the nation’s first female board certified urogynecologist.  She’ll give us the latest information on holistic health of the pelvic region, including why changes in pH and bacteria inside the vagina can create major impacts. We’ll discuss why she doesn’t recommend estrogen pills, which topical products she does recommend, and she’ll give us the straight scoop on vaginal rejuvenation lasers. Are they really all that?

This is a discussion that all women, whether pre-, peri-, or post-menopause, should hear.

Please join me and board-certified gynecologist Dr. Betsy Greenleaf as we cover Holistic Pelvic Health – How to Deal with the Changes that Happen “Down There.”

How we eat can be as important as what we eat.

As a society, we are placing less and less emphasis on the timeless tradition of enjoying a good meal with good company.  We eat while driving, watching TV, or staring at our phones.

But how does this affect our health, our weight, and our relationships?

My guest this week is a clinical psychologist who has dedicated her career to encouraging the practice of eating mindfully.  She’s found in her practice that mindless eating is a major cause of anxiety, weight gain, relationship issues, and even hanger- the combination of hunger and anger that we’ve all experienced at one time or another.

So if you have issues with food, aren’t happy with your family’s mealtime practices, or maybe you’re just tired of being hangry all the time, then this episode is for you.

Please join me and Dr. Susan Albers as we discuss Eating Mindfully and Hanger Management.
